Oregon Fossils
Fossil hunting in Oregon is very fun. One can spend the whole day searching the coastline for these treasures. I never come home without something to show for the day, besides the fun at the beach
that is ;^)

Baleen Whale fossil in sandstone whale vertebrae
Found this fossil one day at the beach. Saw a rusty looking
spot on the rock and curiosity took over. It has been
identified by Professor William Oar (U of O) as probably
part of a baleen whales spine probably 15-20,000,000 years
old. The coke can is for scale
Here is another
whale vertebrae.
Not very big as
they go but still
a nice find!
Find these
snail shells on the
beach. The shell
is removed to
reveal the agate

  Agatized
Clam Fossil

Found this clam
imbedded in rock.
Carefully chiseled it
out and chipped
away the rock from
it. It broke open to
reveal the crystalline
structure inside.
Took a couple of
hours to remove
the rock and polish
it.
  Notice the
petrified wood next
to the clam in the
pic on the right.

In the rock above is a Crab fossil. Look closely and you can see that it is the underside of the crab where the legs attached. Right are the agatized contents of spiral snail shells with the shells worn away. The bottle cap on the left is not a fossil :)

If you are bitten by the fossil bug and make your way to Oregon, you can Email me for
info or to go hunting for or a tour.
